PRoject Summary

This is a scenario-based eLearning concept project designed and developed to help college students succeed in evaluating images as reliable sources for their research papers. Throughout the course, the learner engages in a series of real-life, low-risk scenarios, ultimately learning what strategies and questions lead to trustworthy media.

  • Audience: College students
  • Responsibilities: Instructional design, action mapping (needs analysis), visual design, mockups, eLearning developments
  • Tools used: Articulate Storyline, AdobeXD, Adobe Illustrator, Mindmeister, Google Docs

EXPERIENCE THE PROJECT

the problem

The university had noticed that increasingly over the years students have come in larger skepticism of the media. Understanding the importance of visual literacy, Cal Poly Kennedy Library wanted to create a guide to help student access, explore and share all types of data in their academic work. After deciding that engagement and design were equally important to the team they reached out for help.

the solution

Through careful analysis with the client, I determined that the problem was a lack of low-risk opportunities to think critically as learners conduct research. To solve this inquiry-driven problem, I proposed an immersive scenario-based eLearning experience for learners to practice critical thinking skills using real-world examples. Keeping assignment expectations in mind, the learning experience would help the learner make a connection between using rhetorical appeals and conducting low-pressure research.
